The Coast Guard and Fire Department jointly rescued a tourist in his 70s who fell into the sea near a passenger terminal on Anjwa Island, Sinan County, South Jeolla Province.
According to the Mokpo Coast Guard on August 23, a report was received at 6:12 p.m. on August 22 that a person had fallen into the water in front of Eupdong Passenger Terminal on Anjwa Island, Sinan County.
Police officers from the Amtae Police Substation, who happened to be patrolling near Anjwa Island, arrived at the scene about five minutes after the report was received and, together with firefighters from the 119 Anjwa Unit, rescued Mr. A, a man in his 70s who had fallen into the water.
Mr. A, a tourist residing in Seoul, was confirmed to have slipped and fallen into the water while fishing at the sloped slipway in front of the passenger terminal that day.
Fortunately, Mr. A, who was rescued, was found to have no health issues other than a minor abrasion on his shoulder.
A Mokpo Coast Guard official stated, "The sloped slipway at the passenger terminal is steep and very slippery due to seaweed. Please avoid approaching it whenever possible."
