Gokseong County in South Jeolla Province, led by County Governor Cho Sangrae, announced on the 22nd that it had discovered 197 new policies at the "2026 New Policy Discovery Report Meeting," which was held at the County Office Communication Hall for five days starting from the 18th, in order to proactively respond to the changing administrative environment and the demands of county residents.
Through this report meeting, the county identified new projects in four major areas to enhance the sustainability of county administration and strengthen regional competitiveness: ▲enhancing the effectiveness of the 8th popularly elected administration’s pledges, ▲developing region-specific strategies, ▲resolving daily inconveniences, and ▲improving the structure of similar, overlapping, and inefficient projects. In particular, the county focused on policies aimed at improving the quality of life for residents, with an emphasis on citizen safety, stabilization of livelihoods, revitalization of the local economy, and preparing for an innovative future.
The meeting was presided over by Governor Cho Sangrae, with all department heads and staff participating to engage in in-depth discussions on the direction and execution strategies for the discovered projects. Starting this year, a notable feature was the incorporation of expert opinions in advance through subcommittee meetings of the Policy Advisory Committee, in order to enhance policy effectiveness.
Major new policies for next year include: ▲expanding public seasonal labor programs to address rural labor supply, ▲broadening the range of agricultural and livestock products eligible for price stabilization fund support, ▲constructing a new rose seedling nursery as the first phase of the rose industrialization project, ▲declaring 2026 as the "Year of Gokseong Tourism Leap," ▲operating a special program commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Jeonghae Persecution, ▲implementing a carbon neutrality points system, ▲the Okhwa "Everyone's Plaza" project, ▲commissioning a basic plan for attracting the International Garden Expo, ▲developing a long-term shipping base for blueberries, ▲establishing a year-round production base for high-quality Gokseong melons, ▲building an infectious disease response center, ▲commissioning the Gokseong County 2036 mid- to long-term comprehensive development plan, ▲creating a public parking lot, and ▲expanding recognition and support for national merit recipients.
The county plans to prioritize and specify the most feasible policies discovered at this report meeting by linking them with the new government's national agenda. After reviewing whether to include them in the 2026 budget, the county will move forward with full-scale implementation.
Governor Cho Sangrae emphasized, "We will strive to ensure that the newly discovered policies become the future strategy for Gokseong," and added, "We will develop optimal policies tailored to local conditions to create changes that residents can truly feel."
