Shin Dongwook, Kim Minsu, Yang Hyangja, and Kim Jaewon have been elected as the new Supreme Council members of the People Power Party. Assemblyman Woo Jaejun was chosen as the Youth Supreme Council member.
On the afternoon of August 22, Hwang Wooye, chairman of the People Power Party Election Management Committee, held the 6th National Convention at Osco in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, and announced the results of the Supreme Council and Youth Supreme Council elections.
Combining party member votes and public opinion polls, the results were as follows: Kim Geunsik received 98,384 votes, Kim Minsu 154,940 votes, Kim Jaewon 99,751 votes, Kim Taewoo 79,051 votes, Son Beomgyu 28,603 votes, Shin Dongwook 172,341 votes, Yang Hyangja 103,957 votes, and Choi Sujin 80,024 votes.
Shin Dongwook was elected as the chief Supreme Council member.
Shin Dongwook, Kim Minsu, and Kim Jaewon are classified as members of the anti-impeachment faction. Kim Jaewon previously served as a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party and as chief of staff for Kim Moonsoo, the 21st presidential candidate. Kim Minsu received support from far-right YouTuber Jeon Hangil and others.
Among the elected Supreme Council and Youth Supreme Council members, Yang Hyangja and Woo Jaejun are classified as pro-impeachment faction. Kim Geunsik, who is affiliated with the pro-Han Donghoon group, was not elected. Yang Hyangja, a former executive at Samsung Electronics and the company's first female executive, is seen as a reformist pushing for party innovation.
For the Youth Supreme Council position, Woo Jaejun won with 204,627 votes, defeating Son, who received 200,740 votes, including both party member votes and public opinion polls.
Together with the party leader and one appointed Supreme Council member designated by the party leader, these individuals will form the party's leadership body, the Supreme Council.
