"We Will Remember for a Long Time"... Gapyeong Flood Victims' Family Sends Coffee Truck to County Office in Appreciation The bereaved family of three relatives who went missing after being swept away by a flash flood during heavy rain in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, and were found dead, sent a vehicle carrying 200 servings of coffee to the county office on the 22nd. Gapyeong County, Yonhap News

According to Yonhap News Agency on the 22nd, the family sent a coffee truck with 200 servings to the county office that day. In front of the coffee truck, a banner and a standee were set up with the message, "We will remember for a long time. Thank you for your hard work."

On the 10th, the family also sent boxes of cookies to the administrative welfare centers in Jojeong-myeon and Sang-myeon, Gapyeong County. On the outside of the boxes was written, "Thanks to your warm help, we were able to complete the funeral safely. We are deeply grateful."

The three family members who died went missing on July 20 while evacuating from a campsite in Jojeong-myeon, Gapyeong County, as heavy rain of up to 76mm per hour hit the area. They were swept away by a rapid current while trying to escape the flood. Their bodies were found on the day of the accident, on the fifth day, and on the twelfth day after the disappearance, respectively. The eldest son, who was evacuating with them, was rescued by emergency responders.

Immediately after the accident, Gapyeong County connected the bereaved family members with staff members on a one-on-one basis to provide accommodation and meals, explained the daily search situation, and offered comfort. The county also provided equipment so the family could search the areas they wished themselves, and assisted with funeral procedures after the bodies were recovered.

An employee who received the coffee that day said, "We are grateful for the family's warm gesture, and touched by the care put into the coffee and cookies. We pray for the deceased and will do our best to help the family return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
