In response to a recent series of fatal industrial accidents in Jeollanamdo, the provincial government has decided to conduct a comprehensive survey of hazardous facilities at industrial sites, strengthen safety education, and enhance cooperation with relevant organizations, dedicating all efforts to prevent accidents caused by negligence and gross misconduct.

On the 22nd, Jeollanamdo Governor Kim Youngrok presided over an "Emergency Countermeasure Meeting for the Comprehensive Survey of Industrial Safety Hazard Facilities" at the provincial government disaster control room. He stated, "Recently, there have been a series of accidents that could have been prevented in advance," and instructed, "Thoroughly inspect the current status of safety management at industrial sites, and conduct a comprehensive survey of high-risk workplaces where serious accidents are a concern, in order to eliminate any blind spots in safety."

The meeting was attended by Jeollanamdo department heads, deputy heads of city and county governments, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, local chambers of commerce, the Specialized Construction Association, agricultural and fisheries management organizations, and other related agencies and organizations.

They discussed in depth the following: ▲ a comprehensive inspection of all sectors, including construction and manufacturing sites, hazardous material handling facilities, confined workspaces, and small-scale businesses; ▲ intensive management of high-risk workplaces and safety-vulnerable industries with a recent history of industrial accidents; ▲ designation of workplace safety managers and plans for monitoring implementation; and ▲ improvement measures for harmful and hazardous factors, as well as the implementation of safety education.

In particular, Jeollanamdo plans to join forces with city and county governments, relevant departments, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, and various economic and industrial organizations to conduct field-focused joint inspections. The province will also ensure that foreign workers and day laborers are not neglected by providing special management for these groups.

Governor Kim requested, "To ensure that residents and workers can work safely at industrial sites, thoroughly implement safety education and install warning signs to alert about risk factors, so that all accidents caused by negligence and gross misconduct can be prevented in advance."

He also urged, "Establish a cooperative system with the Ministry of Employment and Labor and related organizations to prevent casualties at industrial sites, and actively support private companies in Jeollanamdo in their efforts to prevent serious accidents."
