Nonsan Takes the Lead in Global Agriculture
World Strawberry Industry Expo to Elevate Nonsan as a Smart Farming Hub
Mayor SungHyun Baek: "Transforming Strawberries into a Global Industrial Brand"
Anticipating Major Economic Impact and Job Creation through the 2027 Expo
Nonsan in South Chungcheong Province is taking on the challenge of leading the future of global agriculture, going beyond just strawberries.
According to Nonsan City on August 22, Nonsan, the nation’s largest strawberry-producing region and the top exporter, will host the "2027 Nonsan World Strawberry Industry Expo" from February 26 to March 21, 2027.
Mayor SungHyun Baek stated, "Strawberries may be small, but they are a powerful industrial item," adding, "We will elevate Nonsan strawberries from a simple fruit to a global industrial brand."
He emphasized, "Through this expo, we expect an economic impact of 369.8 billion won in production inducement, 154.2 billion won in value-added inducement, and a total economic effect of 524.1 billion won, as well as the creation of 2,687 jobs. It will become a representative economic festival for Korean agriculture that all citizens can truly experience."
The city has planned the expo not as a simple exhibition, but as an "industrial expo" encompassing smart farm technology, processing, distribution, bio, food, and tourism-related industries.
By inviting global buyers for export consultations and holding international conferences, the city aims to directly expand export channels and enhance overseas recognition. The event will also serve as a platform to demonstrate the quality and technological prowess of Nonsan strawberries.
With the theme "K-Berry! Smart Agriculture, Healthy Future," this government-approved international event is expected to attract more than 1.54 million participants from 38 countries.

The city has already proven its potential in the global market through the Asia Korean Entrepreneurs Convention and overseas agricultural food expos, and now aims to become the hub of the world strawberry industry through the expo.
Mayor SungHyun Baek said, "After the expo, Nonsan will be recognized worldwide not just as a city of strawberries, but as a city symbolizing smart agriculture and a sustainable future. Together with all citizens, we will ensure that Nonsan's challenge leads to the future of Korean agriculture."
