Kim Moonsoo, former Minister of Employment and Labor and a candidate in the People Power Party leadership election, stated at the party convention on August 22, "While the Lee Jaemyung administration is attempting to dismantle the People Power Party, it is actually the Democratic Party that should be dissolved."

Introducing himself at the 6th party convention held at Osco in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, that afternoon, Kim said, "I came here after staging an overnight sit-in at party headquarters to prevent the special prosecutor investigating Lee Jaemyung from seizing the party member list."

Kim expressed his gratitude, saying, "I thank all the party members who protected the People Power Party's member list," and emphasized, "I am proud of the People Power Party, which founded the Republic of Korea, achieved the economic miracle, and accomplished democratization."

He continued, "Let us march toward a great victory together with our proud five million party members," and shouted, "Let us unite, fight, and win."

Jang Donghyuk, another candidate opposing the impeachment, who is also a People Power Party lawmaker, said, "I will definitely innovate the People Power Party," appealing for support by stating, "Choosing Jang Donghyuk is choosing the future of the People Power Party."

Assemblyman Jang stressed, "A crisis is an opportunity given by heaven to those who are ready for change," and declared, "I am ready for change and innovation."

He added, "I, Jang Donghyuk, will build a Republic of Korea where opportunities are given to those who work hard," and "I, Jang Donghyuk, will become the gateway to opportunity."
