Dongbang Logistics Center, a subsidiary of Dongbang, turned a profit just a year and a half after opening its logistics center in the Busan New Port Bukcon Hinterland Complex following its establishment in 2007. Since then, it has continuously expanded its business sites to Dudong, Mieum, and Ungdong districts.
In particular, the logistics center that opened in Ungdong District in 2023, covering 40,000 square meters, is attracting attention as a logistics cluster hub by providing integrated sea, air, and land services based on advanced multi-purpose logistics infrastructure.
In addition, Dongbang, the parent company, was recently selected as the preferred bidder for the private investment project for the feeder and general cargo terminals at the South Container Terminal of Busan New Port, in partnership with Daewoo, BS Hanyang, and IBK Asset Management at BNOT (Busan Newport One Stop Terminal). BNOT plans to invest approximately 800 billion KRW in the 360,000-square-meter western site of the South Container Terminal.
Dongbang is also recognized as Korea's first and leading heavy cargo transport specialist, boasting unrivaled technology and a proven track record. The company also participated in the salvage operation of the Sewol ferry, handling unloading and placement operations.
Lee Kyungmin, CEO of Dongbang Logistics Center, stated that the company provides differentiated logistics services for a wide variety of client products. As of 2024, annual sales reached 19.9 billion KRW, with 16 employees at the center and over 830 employees across the group. Of these, more than 150 on-site staff are local residents, making the company a preferred employer in the region.
He also emphasized the center's thorough management of on-site safety, highlighting the operation of 24-hour on-site personnel, unmanned security networks, and comprehensive monitoring to ensure cargo safety and respond to various accident scenarios.
During the visit, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on challenges faced in the logistics business, future development directions, and sought ways to promote mutual cooperation. Discussions also included value-added creation through food logistics models specializing in coffee beans, support for participation in the Japan SCAJ Expo, and business consultations regarding Dongbang Group's additional investment plans within the new port.
The Japan SCAJ (Specialty Coffee Association Japan) is the largest coffee industry expo in Japan.
Furthermore, Dongbang Logistics Center is gradually implementing a 'coffee logistics value-added model' that goes beyond simple storage to include roasting and finished product production in collaboration with coffee specialty companies.
Park Sungho, head of the authority, stated, "Dongbang Logistics Center has been a strategic partner that has grown together with BJFEZ since its early days and is a leading company representing the competitiveness of the logistics industry in the port hinterland complex. I hope it will become a leading model in the high-value-added multi-purpose logistics sector, which is still in its early stages."
