This event was organized to commemorate the 2025 Gyeongju APEC Summit and the UN-designated "International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ)." It focused on three pillars: international joint research, education, and popularization, aiming to discuss the present and future of quantum technology and to expand global cooperation.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is an economic cooperation body comprised of 21 member economies, established to promote economic growth, trade liberalization, and mutual cooperation.

Co-hosted by the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP), the Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies (AAPPS), and Pohang University of Science and Technology, the event was attended by approximately 150 participants, including Seo Jaewon, Policy Advisor to Pohang City, Park Hwanil, Vice Chair of the APEC Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI), and leading scholars from Korea and abroad.

The program featured a public lecture by Professor Kim Beomjun of Sungkyunkwan University on "The Meaning of Quantum Technology in Everyday Life," an international forum panel discussion, presentations at the international symposium, and an international workshop among APEC centers.

In particular, the keynote lecture by Professor Jian-Wei Pan of the University of Science and Technology of China drew significant attention from attendees. Professor Pan, a renowned scholar who pioneered quantum cryptography communication using satellites, delivered an in-depth outlook on "The Past, Present, and Future of Quantum Information Processing."

Following this, researchers from leading universities such as the National University of Singapore, the University of Tokyo, Pohang University of Science and Technology, and Tsinghua University discussed the latest research trends and international cooperation strategies in quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum security.

During the Q&A and networking sessions that followed the main event, there was active exchange among domestic and international experts. Participants remarked that it was a meaningful opportunity to identify concrete directions for the development of quantum technology and international cooperation.

Seo Jaewon, Policy Advisor, emphasized, "Quantum technology is a future core technology that will drive innovation in diverse fields such as artificial intelligence, information security, and healthcare. Taking the 2025 APEC Summit as an opportunity, we will do our utmost to expand research infrastructure and international networks so that Pohang can establish itself as a global quantum technology hub."

Pohang City plans to use this forum to broaden the scope of international joint research in quantum technology and, in connection with the Gyeongju APEC Summit, to continue hosting various international science and technology events, thereby developing Pohang into a key hub of the Asia-Pacific basic science and technology network.
