Professor Baek Suhwang Receives Prestigious Science and Technology Paper Award
Recognized for Advancing In-Wheel Motor Technology for Next-Generation Eco-Friendly Mobility
Sangmyung University announced on August 22 that Professor Baek Suhwang of the Department of Human Intelligence and Robotics Engineering at the College of Engineering has received the "35th Excellent Paper Award in Science and Technology," organized by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies.
The Excellent Paper Award in Science and Technology is one of the most prestigious academic awards in Korea's scientific community, given to researchers who have published creative and outstanding research achievements in domestic academic journals.
The Federation selects the final recipients by evaluating the academic contribution, creativity, and completeness of papers recommended by member academic societies, through reviews by a professional committee and the Academic Promotion Committee.
Professor Baek's paper is titled "A Study on the Improvement of Torque Characteristics of a 10kW-Class Axial Flux In-Wheel Motor According to Permanent Magnet Shape."
This research was highly regarded for simplifying vehicle drivetrain components by applying an in-wheel structure and axial flux method, while also achieving high efficiency and high torque density.
It has been recognized for contributing to the performance improvement of next-generation eco-friendly mobility drive motors, such as micro EVs and electric two-wheelers.
Professor Baek stated, "It is a great honor to receive such a prestigious award," and added, "Based on these research achievements, I will pursue prototype development, patent applications, and the expansion of various applied systems to accelerate the commercialization and practical application of intelligent mobility and robot motor technologies."
