Local Content Universities in Yeongnam Join Forces
First 'Local Riders' Hackathon Explores Creative Revitalization of Busan's Commercial Districts
The first hackathon program, 'Local Riders,' jointly hosted by local content-focused universities in the Yeongnam region, was held over two days until August 20.
Four universities in the Yeongnam region are holding the 'Local Riders' hackathon and taking a commemorative photo.
More than 40 participants, including students and project group officials from Tongmyong University, Gyeongsang National University, Keimyung University, and Busan University of Foreign Studies, took part in the event.
Participants used the Busan Eurasia Platform as their base, attended a special lecture by Park Myungjae, program director of the Busan Food Film Festa, and learned about cases where film and gastronomy are combined. They also explored key local commercial districts in Busan, such as Munmun Sanghoe, Oncheoncheon Cafe Street, and Namcheon Badaro, experiencing the local content and management practices firsthand. A roundtable discussion with commercial district managers and executives was also held, allowing for the exchange of vivid opinions.
After field research, students presented their proposals on ways to revitalize each commercial district. Creative ideas such as 'Moonlit Alley, Munmun Sanghoe' and 'Creating Daengcheoncheon Street by utilizing idle spaces in Oncheoncheon Cafe Street' drew attention.
One participant commented, "I was able to see cafes and restaurants, which I had only used as a consumer, from a new perspective. It was a meaningful experience to be able to propose my own ideas."
No Seongyeo, head of the Tongmyong University project group (professor of entrepreneurship), said, "It was impressive to see the younger generation taking an interest in and participating in local content. I expect this will infuse creative ideas into local commercial districts and serve as an opportunity for mutual growth."
