Trump: "Ukraine Can't Win the War Without Attacking"

President Donald Trump of the United States criticized former President Joe Biden on August 21 (local time), claiming that Biden prevented Ukraine from counterattacking against Russia's invasion.

On his social networking service, Truth Social, President Trump stated, "It is almost impossible to win a war without attacking the aggressor," expressing his criticism.

He continued, "It's like an outstanding sports team with excellent defense but absolutely no ability to attack. There is no chance of victory whatsoever," adding, "The same applies to Ukraine and Russia."

President Trump criticized, "The corrupt and extremely incompetent Joe Biden prevented Ukraine from counterattacking and forced them to only defend." He also said, "In any case, if I had been president, this war would never have happened. There is not even the slightest possibility," and added, "An interesting time is approaching!"

On August 15, President Trump held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, and on August 18, he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and leaders of major European countries at the White House. Following these consecutive meetings, President Trump has been coordinating a bilateral summit between Russia and Ukraine, discussing security guarantees for Europe and Ukraine, and attempting to negotiate an end to the war.

The political news outlet The Hill interpreted, "While the Kremlin is sending signals that it may delay progress in peace negotiations, President Trump raised the possibility that Ukraine could launch attacks against Russia."

Until now, President Trump has opposed Ukraine attacking Russian territory. When former President Biden approved the use of ATACMS, a tactical ballistic missile with a maximum range of 300 km, for strikes on Russian soil in November last year, Trump, then president-elect, held a press conference in December and strongly criticized the decision. However, his latest remarks, stating that it is difficult to achieve victory without attacking, differ from his previous position. Some analysts suggest that by mentioning the possibility of a Ukrainian counterattack, President Trump may be pressuring Russia to engage in peace negotiations.
