Taking into account regional circumstances, 21 southern cities and counties held their meeting on August 20 at the Gyeonggi Human Resources Development Institute in Suwon, while 10 northern cities and counties (Goyang, Namyangju, Paju, Uijeongbu, Yangju, Guri, Pocheon, Gimpo, Yeoncheon, Gapyeong, and Dongducheon) held their meeting on August 21 at the Northern Office.

During the meetings, participants shared and discussed: ▲ response measures following the enactment and implementation of the "Urban Stream Basin Flood Damage Prevention Act"; ▲ the current status and future plans for the comprehensive plan to prevent flood damage in urban streams; and ▲ progress on the service for revising the "Comprehensive Maintenance Plan for Local Streams in Gyeonggi Province." The province also collected opinions from the field, which will be actively reflected in future countermeasures.

Additionally, the "Service for Establishing Flood Damage Prevention Measures for Urban Streams in Gyeonggi Province," which began in December 2024, will incorporate both the development of preventive measures for urban streams in response to localized heavy rain and the changes in conditions such as stream projects and the incorporation of new towns since the "Comprehensive Maintenance Plan for Local Streams in Gyeonggi Province" was established in 2021. The service is scheduled for completion by the first half of 2026.

Kang Seongsup, Director of Construction at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Due to recent climate change, localized and extreme heavy rainfall is occurring more frequently, increasing the risk of urban flooding. We will strengthen our cooperation system with cities and counties and develop practical measures to prevent flood damage in urban streams."

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province plans to establish the "Comprehensive Maintenance Plan for Local Streams in Gyeonggi Province" by June next year and to carry out phased maintenance of local streams through 2035.
