Democratic Party Lawmakers from Chungcheong Begin Field Tour and Discussion with First Stop in Sejong

The Chungdae-Se Forum, a gathering of National Assembly members from the Democratic Party of Korea representing the Chungcheong, Daejeon, and Sejong regions, visited Sejong on August 20 as the first stop of their "Chungcheong Region Field Inspection and Current Issues Tour."

According to the office of Assemblyman Junhyun Kang (Sejong-eul) on August 21, this event was held on August 20 under the theme "The Nation Thrives When the Provinces Thrive: Making Chungcheong the Center of National Balanced Development." The lawmakers, together with the Local Era Committee, visited the site of the National Assembly Sejong Building and received a progress report from the Multifunctional Administrative City Construction Agency.

Assemblyman Junhyun Kang, who serves as the secretary-general of the Chungdae-Se Forum, stated, "Since the Participatory Government, we have been pursuing national balanced development policies to ease the concentration in the Seoul metropolitan area and strengthen regional competitiveness. However, the structural problems of metropolitan overconcentration and regional extinction remain unresolved." He emphasized, "Since the inauguration of the Lee Jaemyung administration, comprehensive efforts for balanced national growth have continued, including the pledges to relocate the presidential office and the National Assembly. Completing the five-pole, three-special administrative capital system is a key principle for ushering in the Local Era, and the Chungcheong region will be at its core."

He further explained, "This schedule was arranged to discuss major issues such as the creation of the Chungcheong Mega City, the integration of Daejeon and South Chungcheong Province, the relocation of the presidential office, and the complete relocation of the National Assembly, as well as to explore ways to proactively promote region-led balanced national development."

After inspecting the National Assembly Sejong Building site, a meeting was held in the main conference room of the Local Era Committee. Kim Kyungsoo, chairperson of the Local Era Committee, stated, "The five-pole, three-special balanced growth policy is a fundamental transformation strategy to overcome the national crisis and a survival strategy for Korea." He added, "The completion of the Chungcheong administrative capital, the construction of the Sejong presidential office within the current term, and the creation of the Chungcheong Mega City have all been included as national policy tasks." He continued, "Completing the administrative capital is one of the core tasks of the Local Era Committee. We have already launched a special committee for this purpose and have begun earnest efforts. Securing next year’s budget and discussing legal and institutional improvements in the regular National Assembly session are crucial. We ask for the National Assembly's active cooperation in providing legal and financial support for balanced growth."

The Chungdae-Se Forum, which organized this meeting, includes Chungcheong region National Assembly members such as Park Beomgye, Junhyun Kang, Song Jaebong, Lee Jaegwan, Moon Jinseok, Park Suhyeon, Park Yonggap, Park Junghyun, Baek Seunga, Bok Giwang, Uh Kigu, Lee Kangil, Lee Gwanghee, Lee Yeonhee, Lee Jeongmun, Lim Hoseon, Jang Jongtae, Jang Cheolmin, Cho Seungrae, Hwang Myungseon, and Hwang Jeonga.
