Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang Province successfully operated the "Elderly Care Program with One Senior, One Youth, One Village Students" at the senior centers in Gusan 2-ri, Saeteo, Deokgye-ri, and Woljeong-ri in Hyeonseomyeon from August 4 to August 8.
This program was designed to foster intergenerational communication between seniors in Hyeonseomyeon and students from Hyeonseom Middle and High Schools, while also enhancing the sense of community in the village through emotional exchange among local residents.
The program included a variety of activities such as applying manicures, origami, making watermelon punch, and experiencing facial masks, allowing the elderly participants to find joy in their daily lives.
Additionally, the program was tailored to each senior center, taking into account the preferences and health conditions of the participating seniors. Despite the hot summer weather, the warm atmosphere was filled with laughter.
One elderly participant shared, "Having someone hold my hand and spend time talking with me makes me feel younger." The students who participated also said, "It was rewarding and fulfilling to see the seniors enjoying themselves."
County Governor Yoon Kyunghee stated, "I am pleased that this was a time for our seniors to laugh and enjoy themselves," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create a warm Cheongsong where generations can come together."
