[Market Focus] Aniplus Surges as "Demon Slayer," Seen by 18 Million in Japan, Tops 84% Advance Ticket Sales in Korea

Aniplus is showing strong performance. This is believed to be influenced by the news that the Japanese animated film "Demon Slayer: Mugen Castle Arc," which is set to be released in Korea, has reached the top spot in advance ticket sales.

As of 9:35 a.m. on August 21, Aniplus was trading at 6,140 KRW, up 10.61% from the previous day.

According to industry sources, the film "Demon Slayer: Mugen Castle Arc," which achieved the highest opening score ever for a Japanese movie, will be released in Korea on August 22. As of 7:00 p.m. the previous day, the advance ticket sales rate for "Demon Slayer: Mugen Castle Arc" was 84%, ranking first.

This film, which was released in Japan on July 18, surpassed 10 billion yen in cumulative revenue in just eight days, setting a new record for the fastest "10 billion yen breakthrough."

The original work, "Demon Slayer," is a long-running manga that was serialized in Japan's weekly comic magazine "Shonen Jump" from 2016 to 2020. Set in Japan's Taisho era (1912-1926), it tells the story of "Blood Demons," who gain immortality by consuming humans, and the "Demon Slayer Corps," an organization formed to eliminate them. With cumulative published volumes exceeding 220 million copies, it is a major hit, and the anime adaptation released in 2019 surpassed the popularity of the original manga.

Meanwhile, Aniplus is an OSMU (One Source Multi Use) company that imports Japanese animation IP and distributes it through its own TV channel, OTT services, and domestic and international platforms, while also operating MD and event businesses. Analysts in the securities industry predict that with the release of the "Demon Slayer" movie, Aniplus is expected to see increased content revenue and expanded additional profits from MD and other sources.
