Sejong University is holding a solo exhibition by artist Choi Youngjoo, who is active in the United States, at Sejong Museum Gallery Hall 1 until August 31.
This exhibition features over 40 paintings that explore the layers of light, time, and memory, expressing themes of existence, cycles, and cosmic connectivity.
After graduating from the College of Fine Arts at Hongik University, Choi moved to the United States and has continued to exhibit her work internationally in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto, Canada.
Choi’s work is characterized by its expansion from painting into installation and mixed-media approaches, depicting "landscapes of suspended time" where the past and present coexist on the canvas.
Art critic Jang Sohyun commented, "Her paintings feature empty chairs, blue spaces, and lines connecting stars, with these lines infinitely expanding beyond the exhibition space. The empty chair represents a place of existence, and the message is that we must each decide for ourselves how we will occupy that space."
A representative from Sejong Museum Gallery stated, "Through the artist’s works, which encompass the themes of light, time, memory, and cosmic connectivity, we aim to provide visitors with an opportunity to reflect on the origins of life and existence," adding, "Through the abstract colors and flows of imagery in the pieces, viewers will encounter a world that is endlessly connected and cyclical."
