Namhangang Riverside Project Progresses Smoothly
Yangpyeong’s Riverfront Transformation
Anticipation Grows for Boost in Local Tourism
Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province (County Governor Jeon Jinseon) announced on August 20 that the "Namhangang Riverside Specialized Street Development Project," which links local tourism resources with natural scenery, is progressing smoothly.
This project aims to transform the approximately 1.1 km stretch of the Namhangang riverside area, from Yanggeun Bridge near Yangpyeong Station to Yangpyeong Bridge, into a complex cultural and tourism destination that both residents and visitors can enjoy. The area will feature a pedestrian-friendly walking trail, a culture and arts-themed street, waterfront and relaxation spaces, and nighttime landscape lighting facilities.
After construction began in January 2025, the pile installation process-an essential groundwork for building the terrace-was safely completed by May. Currently, the main facility, "Yangpyeong Muldeulim Terrace," is under installation. The first phase of construction is scheduled to be completed in October, at which time the "Yangpyeong Muldeulim Terrace" will be opened to residents.
Additionally, on October 26, the "Yangpyeong Muldeulim Terrace Festival" will be held, centered around the terrace. Various events such as the Waterside Trail Walking Festival, Terrace Market, Yangchelin Market, and Terrace Concert will take place. Through the Gyeonggi The Dream Urban Regeneration Project, the county aims to develop the Namhangang riverside into a local landmark, contributing to revitalizing the regional economy and expanding the commercial district.
Yangpyeong County plans to do its utmost to ensure safety and high quality during the remaining construction period, while also preparing thoroughly for the festival to ensure the smooth progress of the project.
Jeon Jinseon, Governor of Yangpyeong County, stated, "The Namhangang Riverside Specialized Street Development Project is not just a simple landscape improvement, but a comprehensive project that integrates local culture, economy, and tourism. We will do our best to make it the new face of Yangpyeong and a nationwide attraction."
