Hwaseong City to Expand Park Area by 19 Square Kilometers by 2035

On August 20, Hwaseong City announced that its "2035 Hwaseong City Parks and Green Spaces Master Plan," which includes these details, was recently approved and finalized by Gyeonggi Province. The Parks and Green Spaces Master Plan is a mid- to long-term roadmap for creating green spaces and parks within the city, designed to proactively respond to the changing urban environment.

This plan sets goals to be achieved by 2035, compared to the base year of 2021, including: securing 15.9 square meters of park area per capita, expanding the total park area by 19.0 square kilometers, and achieving a park service rate of 36.6%. The plan presents multifaceted strategies to address climate and environmental changes, such as reducing fine dust and achieving carbon neutrality, in addition to creating new urban parks.

The city explained that this plan goes beyond simply expanding green spaces and serves as a core strategy to support urban sustainability, including responding to the climate crisis, restoring ecosystems, promoting citizens' health, and revitalizing local communities.

Jung Myunggeun, Mayor of Hwaseong, stated, "This plan sets the direction for realizing green welfare that citizens can experience in their daily lives and for creating a sustainable urban environment," adding, "We will work to build Hwaseong as a future-oriented green city where development and conservation are in harmony."
