Dong-Eui University Team Wins Best Poster Award at 15th Canada-Korea Conference
Recognized for Developing Analytical Methods
to Ensure Food Safety from New Persistent Organic Pollutants
Professor Kyungtae Kim from the Department of Food Engineering at Dong-Eui University, along with master's student Gabin Baek, senior Hyunseo Lee, and junior Heechan Han, were recently honored with the Best Poster Award at the 15th Canada-Korea Conference (CKC) on Science and Technology, held in Montreal, Canada.

At this 15th conference, only three teams-including Dong-Eui University, McGill University, and the University of Alberta-were selected as recipients of the Best Poster Award.
The group, affiliated with the Food Engineering Laboratory (supervised by Professor Kyungtae Kim) at Dong-Eui University, presented their joint research project titled "Simultaneous Analytical Method development of Siloxanes and Synthetic Musks for Food Safety from new POPs risk," which focuses on developing analytical methods to ensure food safety from the risks posed by new persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as siloxanes and synthetic musks.
This research was commissioned by the National Institute of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation (Director: Seokyeon Kang) and, over the past four years, has involved collaboration with the Colleges of Pharmacy at Chung-Ang University (Professors Sangbeom Han and Dongkyu Lee), Dankook University (Professor Yongseok Choi), and Chungnam National University (Professor Hyungmin Kim). Together, they have developed analytical methods for new organic residual substances (POPs: Persistent Organic Pollutants) that pose food safety risks.
Professor Kyungtae Kim of the Food Engineering Laboratory stated, "I am proud of my students who worked tirelessly day and night to solve the research challenges and ultimately achieved the honor of receiving an award at an international conference. I will continue to actively support my students so that their efforts lead to the best possible outcomes."
The 15th CKC, organized by the Korean-Canadian Scientists and Engineers Association, was attended by 16 major Canadian universities-including McGill University, the University of Toronto, and the University of Alberta-along with 11 institutions and companies such as the National Research Council Canada. In addition, 28 universities and organizations from Korea participated, including Dong-Eui University, Seoul National University, Pohang University of Science and Technology, Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, and the city of Busan.
