Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met with Bill Gates, Chairman of the Gates Foundation, who is currently visiting Japan, to exchange views on international public health.
According to Kyodo News on the 19th, Chairman Gates referred to the international public health situation and expressed his hope for Japan's cooperation during his meeting with Prime Minister Ishiba.
Tetsuo Saito, leader of the Komeito Party, who attended the meeting, stated, "Prime Minister Ishiba announced that Japan will provide $550 million (approximately 764 billion yen) in support to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, over the next five years."
After the meeting, Chairman Gates told reporters, "I mentioned that innovation is happening in Japan and that many new products could help improve health in Africa." Chairman Gates is scheduled to visit South Korea later this week.
