At the meeting, appointment letters were presented to the co-representatives and members of the agricultural policy council, and the structure and operational plans for the K Agriculture Policy Council were explained. The main points of the proposed national agenda from the new government's National Policy Planning Committee were also shared. Subsequently, each subcommittee held its inaugural meeting, electing representatives and selecting key discussion topics.
The council will be jointly led by Song Miryung, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and Ryu Jinho, President of the Korea 4-H Youth Farmers Association, to ensure the diverse voices of young farmers who will lead the future of Korean agriculture are included. Co-representative Ryu is a young farmer who graduated from the Department of Pomology at Korea National College of Agriculture and Fisheries in 2017 and currently manages a citron farm in Goheung, Jeollanam-do.
The council was established to build social consensus and empathy on the new government's national agenda, identify and discuss additional or supplementary tasks, and develop concrete implementation plans, thereby securing momentum for the advancement of the new administration's agricultural policy initiatives. The council is composed of five divisions and ten subcommittees based on the national agenda: ▲ Food and Distribution ▲ Future Agriculture and Exports ▲ Rural Affairs ▲ Agricultural and Livestock Management ▲ Animal Welfare. A total of approximately 130 members, including farmers, organizations, experts, consumer groups, local governments, and related institutions, will be appointed to the divisions, with intensive operations planned through the end of this year.
Minister Song stated, "While maintaining the continuity of K Agriculture Policy, we will innovate agricultural policy in line with the new administration's philosophy to deliver tangible results that both the public and farmers can feel." She added, "As we concretize the new government's agricultural policies together with the public, we will expand the participation of field farmers and listen even more attentively to voices from all sectors throughout the process."
