Expanding Nationwide and Entering the Japanese Market

On August 19, Polyphenol Factory announced that it will officially sell "Gravity," known as the KAIST shampoo, in pharmacies.

Gravity is available through home shopping channels as well as online retailers such as Market Kurly, Musinsa, and Coupang. Among offline channels, it is available at Emart and Olive Young. Since June, it has also been sold on all routes of Eastar Jet's in-flight sales.

Gravity, known as the KAIST shampoo created by scientists, has been experiencing shortages at its retail channels due to strong word-of-mouth. On the day it launched at Olive Young in March this year, all products sold out in about 30 minutes, reaching the top spot in Olive Young’s overall product category. Since the end of 2024, it has achieved an average order value of 1 billion KRW per episode on Lotte Home Shopping, with a cumulative total of 150,000 bottles sold to date.

Gravity’s flagship product, the Hair Lifting Shampoo, contains a high concentration of the KAIST-patented ingredient LiftMax 308™. According to Polyphenol Factory, clinical results show that a single use of this shampoo improves hair thickness by 19% and hair volume by 87%, while two weeks of use reduces hair loss by approximately 70%. The product has received the EWG Green Grade for all ingredients, is vegan-formulated, and has earned the German Dermatest Excellent rating, making it safe for sensitive scalps. It also features sustainable packaging, including containers and refill pouches made from recycled coconut shells.

Gravity will begin sales at around 50 major pharmacies in Seoul and the greater Gyeonggi area, with plans to expand to pharmacies nationwide within the year. Based on sales performance in the metropolitan area, the company aims to expand its supply chain to pharmacies in the Chungcheong, Yeongnam, and Honam regions in the fourth quarter of this year. In September, Gravity will officially enter the Japanese market with its launch on Rakuten.

Um Sungjun, Director of Sales at Gravity, stated, "This entry into pharmacies is the result of ongoing trust and inquiries from pharmacists who value scientific efficacy. Through pharmacy consultations, we aim to offer professional options to consumers with scalp concerns, and we will continue to introduce products that maximize synergy with specialized channels."
