Upstage Partners with AWS for Global Expansion, Receives Equity Investment

Upstage will strengthen joint sales and market entry in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region and the United States through a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Amazon, the parent company of AWS, has decided to make a minority equity investment in Upstage.

On August 19, Upstage announced that it has entered into a strategic collaboration with AWS. Under this agreement, the two companies will cooperate on go-to-market strategies and joint sales in the APAC region and the United States.

Upstage will strengthen joint sales and market entry in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region and the United States through a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Additionally, Amazon, the parent company of AWS, has decided to make a minority equity investment in Upstage.

As part of this collaboration, Upstage will receive a minority equity investment from Amazon. This is the first time Upstage has received a direct investment from Amazon. However, the exact size of the investment has not been disclosed. Abhijit Muzumdar, Vice President of Corporate Development at Amazon, stated, "We are pleased to support Upstage's next phase of growth as it expands its Solar foundation model and document processing solutions through this investment," adding, "By supporting visionary companies like Upstage, we are committed to driving continued innovation in the field of generative AI."

Through this partnership, Upstage will work with AWS as its 'preferred cloud provider.' Upstage plans to leverage AWS infrastructure for building, training, and deploying foundation models in the future. The company will utilize AWS's machine learning infrastructure-including Amazon SageMaker, AWS Trainium, and AWS Inferentia chips-to offer its large language model (LLM) 'Solar' and a suite of AI-based document processing solutions.

Upstage has previously collaborated with AWS for model development and service delivery. The company has trained its Solar model using Amazon SageMaker and improved model performance by implementing its proprietary Deep Upscaling Scaling (DUS) method on AWS infrastructure. Upstage's flagship Solar model lineup is available on the Amazon Bedrock Marketplace, Amazon SageMaker JumpStart, and AWS Marketplace.
