Vinattech Revalued on Expectations of AI Data Center Boom

Supplying Supercapacitors for Data Center Backup Power
Rising Power Demand Elevates Supercapacitor Importance
Stock Price Up 30% This Month

As demand for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers surges, the importance of supercapacitors is growing. With the United States excluding the use of Chinese-made supercapacitors, the corporate value of the domestic company Vinattech is also rising rapidly.

According to the financial investment industry on August 19, Vinattech's stock price has risen by 29.6% so far this month.

Vinattech Revalued on Expectations of AI Data Center Boom

Vinattech is a manufacturer of supercapacitors. A supercapacitor is an energy storage device that has characteristics between a traditional capacitor and a battery. It can supply or store a large amount of power instantaneously and features fast charging and discharging speeds. Supercapacitors are used in smart meters, where they supply instantaneous current for wireless transmission and store data in the event of a power outage. They are sold to regions including Europe and China.

The global supercapacitor market is projected to grow from $3.9 billion in 2024 to $5.5 billion in 2030, representing an average annual growth rate of 5.9%. As applications for supercapacitors expand, demand is increasing.

An Juwon, a researcher at DS Investment & Securities, explained, "The reason the role of supercapacitors is expanding recently is because industries with high power demand, such as AI data centers and electric vehicle charging stations, are growing." He added, "In AI data centers, where power demand can surge in a short period, demand for supercapacitors with rapid response times is increasing."

DS Investment & Securities estimates that next year, Vinattech will achieve sales of 130.7 billion KRW and operating profit of 15.4 billion KRW. These figures represent increases of 61.4% and 835.7%, respectively, compared to this year's forecasts. The company expects that supercapacitor sales will increase by more than 60%, driving overall growth in scale.

Researcher An stated, "For supercapacitors, new sales to US data centers are expected to reach 30 billion KRW, and sales from existing smart meter customers in China and Europe will also increase."

Previously, in May, Vinattech signed a long-term supply contract with Bloom Energy for supercapacitors for AI data centers. Vinattech will exclusively supply high-performance supercapacitors for Bloom Energy's next-generation solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems. Vinattech's advanced supercapacitor technology, combined with Bloom Energy's SOFC system, effectively responds to rapid fluctuations in power demand at AI data centers. Vinattech's supercapacitors have been adopted as key components to stably manage power peaks and ensure uninterrupted power supply in AI data centers.

A Vinattech representative said, "Along with AI semiconductors, power management solutions are a hidden growth engine for the AI industry," and added, "Through aggressive research and development (R&D) investment, we are developing next-generation supercapacitors with higher energy density and faster charging and discharging speeds."
