On August 18, North Gyeongsang Province and Yecheon County signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hanmac Investment Co., Ltd. at the Yecheon County Office to promote the "Global Brand Hotel Development Project."
The signing ceremony was attended by Yang Geumhee, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of North Gyeongsang Province; Kim Hakdong, Governor of Yecheon County; Lim Gijoo, CEO of Hanmac Investment Co., Ltd.; as well as around 30 relevant public officials and project stakeholders.
The project aims to establish a global brand hotel within Yecheon County. Hanmac Investment Co., Ltd. plans to invest approximately KRW 100 billion from 2025 to 2029 to build a high-end accommodation facility on a 60,000-square-meter site.
North Gyeongsang Province expects that, through the development and operation of a global brand hotel, the region will secure a new landmark, foster specialized talent in the service sector, and expand tourism infrastructure. These efforts are anticipated to attract more tourists and significantly contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
This hotel development is part of North Gyeongsang Province's "One City/County, One Hotel" policy, which aims to gradually expand high-quality accommodation facilities by reflecting the conditions and demand of each city and county.
In particular, North Gyeongsang Province boasts a unique competitive edge in tourism, supported by improved accessibility with the opening of the East Coast railway, the highest number of UNESCO World Heritage sites in the country, and possession of 15% of the nation's cultural assets. As these tourism assets align with policy initiatives, their value is being increasingly recognized.
Despite being a key transportation hub in northern North Gyeongsang Province and offering abundant tourism and leisure resources-such as Yongmunsa Temple, a thousand-year-old Buddhist temple; Hoeryongpo, an inland island village encircled by the Naeseongcheon Stream, a tributary of the Nakdong River; the Yecheon Insect Ecology Center; and the Yecheon Jin-ho Archery Center-Yecheon County has faced challenges in its tourism industry due to insufficient accommodation infrastructure.
With the launch of the "Global Brand Hotel Development Project," the county plans to accelerate the revitalization of inland tourism by establishing a tourism hub in the northern region.
Yang Geumhee, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of North Gyeongsang Province, stated, "Despite the recent challenging economic conditions and uncertain domestic and international environments, I sincerely thank Hanmac Investment Co., Ltd. for making a bold decision to invest in our province. Taking this hotel development project as an opportunity, we will actively support Yecheon County in leveraging its outstanding natural environment, abundant ecological tourism resources, and proud traditional cultural heritage so that the northern region of North Gyeongsang can emerge as a new center of inland tourism."
