Donations and Supplies from Residents, Groups, and Businesses Continue
Over 800 Volunteers Join On-Site Recovery Efforts
Acts of kindness continue in Gwangsan District, Gwangju, as residents come together to help those affected by flood damage.

According to Gwangsan District on August 18, organizations, social groups, and residents of Songjeong 1-dong voluntarily launched a fundraising campaign and delivered 3 million won to the Together Gwangsan Sharing Culture Foundation. The Suwan-dong Community Social Security Council also raised 1 million won to support residents and donated it to the Community Chest of Korea. The Gwangsan-gu Association of Community Leaders and the Residents' Autonomy Committee contributed 4.2 million won, while the Council of Community Social Security Committee Chairpersons donated 3 million won.
Individuals and businesses also participated. A private donor contributed 200 bottles of disinfectant (worth 3 million won) to the Volunteer Center. Hyupsung General Construction Co., Ltd. donated 100 million won, and Shinhan Bank Honam Headquarters plans to deliver fans and summer blankets worth 15 million won to the Korean Red Cross.
In addition, Gogi Mart Food Co., Ltd. donated three types of meal kits (worth 7 million won), Unhyeongung Co., Ltd. donated blankets (worth 27 million won), and the Social Welfare Administration Research Association contributed 3 million won to the Sharing Culture Foundation.
Gwangsan District is also conducting a designated fundraising campaign through the Hometown Love Donation Program to support the restoration of damaged facilities. As of August 12, a total of 22.63 million won had been raised. Donations can be made through 'Hometown Love e-eum' and the private platform 'WeGive' until October 31.
For donors supporting Eoryong-dong and Samdo-dong, which have been declared special disaster zones, tax deduction benefits will be expanded. Until the end of this month, increased quantities of certain gifts (including 17 types such as Korean beef and rice) will be provided, and the first 100 donors will also receive a coffee gifticon.
On-site recovery support activities are also ongoing. The Gwangsan District branch of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Association operated a mobile laundry vehicle, providing free laundry and drying services to residents affected by flooding. The Gwangsan District Volunteer Center dispatched 812 volunteers to help clean homes, shops, and senior centers. The Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the Korea Electrical Engineers Association carried out electrical repair and replacement volunteer services at 11 locations, including damaged homes, senior centers, and daycare centers.
