Strategic Partnership for Advanced Materials
Granito Coating Developed to Enhance Durability and Lifespan of Food Waste Processors
Technological collaboration between domestic small and medium-sized manufacturing companies has led to the development of high-value-added advanced materials.
Sunwoo Corporation, a company specializing in household food waste processors (CEO Kang Mina), and Durabel Korea Co., Ltd., a die-casting coating specialist (CEO Kwon Mina), announced that they have jointly developed a new coating material exclusively for food waste processors called 'Granito' (Granito, granite), and have signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) based on this achievement.
This joint development project was carried out over approximately six months starting in early 2024, with the goal of addressing the persistent issue of "poor-quality, low-cost coatings" in the food waste processor industry. The two companies succeeded in developing a granite-based, high-strength coating material that offers significantly greater durability and non-stick properties compared to conventional ceramic coatings.
The new 'Granito Coating' is being applied by a domestic company for the first time. Surpassing the existing four-layer ceramic coating process, this technology features a total of five layers, with granite coating particles added in two layers to maximize coating strength and create a dotted, three-dimensional texture. Even at high temperatures, the coating particles adhere firmly, providing excellent resistance to scratches, salt, and abrasion.
Sunwoo Corporation has applied this material to the inner surface of the drying drum in its own grinding and drying type food waste processors. As a result, the company reported a significant reduction in food sticking to the bottom, improved overall cleaning convenience, and an extended product lifespan.
Kang Mina, CEO of Sunwoo Corporation, stated, "This MOU goes beyond a simple agreement; it demonstrates that we have achieved world-class product quality using only pure domestic technology and production infrastructure. We plan to continue investing in advanced material research and technology to further strengthen the competitiveness of the MADE IN KOREA brand."
