A total of 23 students and parents participated in this program, which was designed to enhance understanding of oriental medicine hospitals and to explore careers in the medical field.
The event included an introduction to the hospital, an overview of medical institution careers, hands-on experience in various job groups, and a hospital tour. The head nurse of Incheon Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital introduced the nursing profession and the role of nurses in oriental medicine hospitals, followed by a practical session using an aneroid sphygmomanometer (manual blood pressure monitor). Next, an oriental pharmacist introduced key medicinal herbs such as deer antler, angelica, and ginseng, and explained the preparation process and efficacy of herbal medicine. Students had the opportunity to touch and smell the medicinal herbs, deepening their understanding of oriental pharmacy and herbal medicine.
Woo In, Director of Incheon Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital, introduced the concepts of oriental medicine doctors and oriental medicine, and explained oriental treatments using a body model marked with acupuncture points. There was also a Q&A session where students could ask questions about oriental medicine that they had been curious about. In addition, explanations were provided about various other professions such as radiologic technologists and physical therapists, and the program concluded with a tour of the hospital facilities.
Director Woo In stated, "I hope this experience provided students with a broad understanding of the medical field and a meaningful opportunity to explore potential career paths," adding, "We will continue to offer a variety of programs that benefit not only young people but the local community as a whole."
Meanwhile, Incheon Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital is the only oriental medicine hospital in the Incheon area to have received third-cycle medical institution accreditation from the Korea Institute for Healthcare Accreditation under the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The hospital specializes in spinal and joint diseases, treating conditions such as cervical and lumbar disc herniation and degenerative arthritis through integrative oriental medicine. In addition to career exploration programs, the hospital also engages in various social contribution activities, including scholarships and daily necessities support for underprivileged youth in the region, as well as medical support for vulnerable groups.
