Reducing the Risk of Fines
with QR Codes Embedded in Lease Contracts
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Won-oh), announced on August 18 that it has become the first in the nation to introduce the "Instant Housing Lease Contract Report QR Code" system, which allows for immediate mobile reporting of housing lease contracts. This initiative aims to reduce the risk of fines resulting from delayed or omitted lease contract reports.
Under this new system, licensed real estate agents guide parties involved in a lease transaction to promptly and conveniently report their housing lease contracts via mobile devices by scanning a QR code embedded in the contract. Seongdong-gu, in collaboration with the Korea Association of Realtors, has developed a system that automatically prints this QR code on contract forms used by most real estate agencies.
As a result, scanning the QR code included in the contract provides direct access to the Real Estate Transaction Management System, significantly reducing the likelihood of missing the mandatory reporting deadline and helping residents avoid fines.
Even immediately after the end of the guidance period in June, Seongdong-gu produced QR code instruction stickers and distributed them to 833 real estate agencies in the district. By attaching these QR codes to contracts, parties to the transaction have been guided to conveniently report their contracts.
The district expects that the introduction of the instant QR code reporting system will not only streamline administrative procedures for residents by automatically assigning the official contract date upon reporting, but also enhance transparency in the real estate market.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "With the implementation of the instant housing lease contract reporting system via mobile QR codes, resident convenience will be greatly improved and trust in real estate transactions will also be enhanced." He added, "We will continue to expand innovative administrative services that put residents first."
