Governor Kim Dongon of Cheongyang Vows to Build a City Where Young People Choose to Stay

On August 18, Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province announced that it had received the Policy Grand Prize at the '2025 8th Youth-Friendly Constitutional Award.'

This achievement is attributed to the leadership of County Governor Kim Dongon, who has made youth policy a core priority of county administration. Cheongyang is the only region in the Chungcheong area to have won the award for five consecutive years.

Governor Kim Dongon officially launched youth policy initiatives in 2021 by declaring the 'Year of Youth.'

By operating a Youth Network and a Youth Policy Committee, the county directly reflected young people's opinions in local governance. Additionally, it established key youth hubs such as the youth activity space 'Youth LAB,' the youth share house 'Blueship House,' and the youth startup space 'Nugunagae,' thereby building a foundation for housing, entrepreneurship, and networking.

The county also set up the online platform 'Cheongyang Yeonhwa,' providing one-stop access to information on policies, jobs, and events, and established a support system that young people can truly experience.

Last year, more than 600 people participated in over 10 youth events, including the Junior Board launching ceremony, Youth Day Festival, talk concerts, and the Traveling Youth Festival.

Programs such as the Mental Health Supporters, Youth Challenge Support Project, university student internships, and job fairs have also been recognized for enhancing the tangible impact of youth policies.

Governor Kim has implemented a comprehensive youth support package, including employment allowances, youth monthly rent support, the Vacant House Connection Housing project, youth street cultural programs, a musical academy, and marriage incentives, transforming Cheongyang into a city where young people choose to stay.

Furthermore, by linking the Local Extinction Response Fund and central government projects, the county is expanding large-scale youth infrastructure such as 'HamkkesaraU' and 'Naeil-iU Center.' It has also established a scientific policy foundation through its own youth statistics (93 indicators).

Governor Kim stated, "Winning the Youth-Friendly Constitutional Award for five consecutive years is an achievement created together with the youth of Cheongyang County," and added, "We will continue to build Cheongyang as a city where young people want to stay and a place chosen by future generations."
