Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon: "Dedication of 1,695 Volunteers Led to Festival's Success"

Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "The dedication of 1,695 volunteers led to the success of the Daejeon Zero Hour Festival," and added, "I deeply thank everyone who remained at their posts and served until the end, even in the sweltering heat."

The 2025 Daejeon Zero Hour Festival concluded without any accidents, thanks to the efforts of 1,695 volunteers.

During the nine-day festival, which ran from August 8 to 16, volunteers played active roles in various areas, including providing guidance on temporary city bus stop routes, maintaining the festival grounds and surrounding environment, controlling traffic, promoting volunteer activities, and operating experience booths where visitors could directly participate in volunteering.

This volunteering effort brought together 10 organizations-Daejeon Volunteer Association, Daejeon Saemaeul Association, Daejeon Council for the Right Living Movement, Daejeon Chapter of the Korea Freedom Federation, Daejeon Community Leaders Association, Daejeon-Sejong Chapter of the Korean Red Cross Volunteers, Daejeon Disaster Prevention Volunteer Association, Wonbong Association Daejeon-Chungnam Chapter, Seonhaeng Volunteer Group, Donggurami Volunteer Group-as well as university students and citizen volunteers.

Even in the early days of the festival, when there were sudden downpours and scorching heat, the volunteers steadfastly remained at their posts with unwavering passion.

At 30 temporary bus stops, volunteers, in cooperation with the Daejeon 120 Call Center, kindly guided citizens through the changed bus routes. In the field of environmental maintenance, volunteers quietly collected trash and assisted with recycling in the heat to ensure a pleasant environment for visitors.

Additionally, every day, 25 volunteers at 15 locations controlled the entry of vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles, ensuring pedestrian safety.

At the volunteer experience booths, activities such as a "Volunteer Knowledge Quiz," making keyrings from recycled bottle caps, and photo zones were offered, giving festival-goers the opportunity to naturally experience volunteer activities.

To support the volunteers who worked tirelessly at the festival site, the city of Daejeon established and operated a "Volunteer Operations Headquarters" during the event.

The headquarters was staffed in two shifts by 10 employees from the Daejeon Volunteer Center and 54 employees from the Daejeon Administrative Autonomy Bureau, providing volunteer guidance, supplies (ice water, ion drinks, bread, snacks), and heat illness prevention activities, thereby offering strong support for the volunteers.
