Series of Social Media Posts Signal Start of Political Activity

Former Innovation Party leader Cho Kuk has effectively begun political activities by posting a series of updates on social media after being released on the August 15 Liberation Day special pardon.

On the morning of August 16, the day after his release, Cho posted a photo of a book on Facebook along with the words "Books Read Behind Closed Doors."

The phrase "Books Read Behind Closed Doors" refers to reading books in seclusion.

As a result, some interpreted this as Cho's intention to focus on reading rather than public activities for the time being. However, Cho later revised the post to read "Books Read Behind Closed Doors for Eight Months."

This indicates that these are books he read while incarcerated.

The titles of the books Cho posted in the photo include "Kim Dae-jung's Oral Memoir," "Biography of Cho So-ang," "Tilted Equality," "Serious Accident Punishment Act," "Democracy in America," "The Time for Transformative Centrism Has Come," and "Beneficial Conservatism, Righteous Progressivism," among others.

On the day of his release, Cho had also posted on Facebook a short video of stew boiling with the caption "Family Meal."

In his new book "Cho Kuk's Study," published last month while he was in prison, Cho listed having a meal with his family, taking a hot bath, and sharing a drink with friends and comrades as the things he most wanted to do upon release.

He had been sentenced to prison on charges including admissions fraud involving his children and covering up a Blue House inspection, but was pardoned and had his rights restored on Liberation Day.

Many expect that Cho will return to elected office in the future, either through local elections or a parliamentary by-election.
