Nurturing Wildlife Treatment Professionals... Nakdong River Management Headquarters and Tongmyong University Sign Youth Employment MOU

First Nationwide Collaboration Between Local Government Wildlife Treatment Center and University Animal Science Department

The Nakdong River Management Headquarters of Busan Metropolitan City and Tongmyong University have signed an agreement to support youth employment in the field of wildlife-related industries.

On August 14, the Nakdong River Management Headquarters announced on the 15th that it had signed a "Business Agreement to Strengthen Youth Employment Capabilities in Animal-Related Departments" with Tongmyong University (President Lee Sangcheon).

This agreement was promoted to enhance young people's practical field skills by combining the Headquarters' diverse human and material infrastructure, such as its Wildlife Treatment Center, with Tongmyong University's experience in operating animal-related department education, practical training, and credit systems.

This is the first case of cooperation between a local government-run wildlife treatment center and a university's animal science department to foster young talent and strengthen employment capabilities. The agreement includes provisions for ▲educational support to nurture young talent, ▲providing opportunities for specialized field training, and ▲linking credit system management with curricula.

The Center is equipped with a variety of medical devices at the level of a university animal hospital, including ▲a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), ▲special surgical imaging equipment (C-ARM), and ▲a digital X-ray detector. It also possesses laboratories and research facilities for diagnosing wildlife diseases, making it the only institution in Busan capable of increasing treatment rates through injury cause analysis and building a disease diagnosis database.

Recently, the animal-related industry has been rapidly growing, but universities with animal science departments still lack sufficient employment support infrastructure. The Headquarters expects that this business agreement will serve as an opportunity to simultaneously enhance local youth employment competitiveness and the quality of the city's environmental policies.

In the first half of this year, the Headquarters also opened its Wildlife Treatment Center to strengthen youth employment capabilities in animal-related departments, providing ▲basic wildlife examinations, ▲trauma care, ▲rescue and rehabilitation, and ▲animal ecology lectures to 30 students from the animal-related department at Silla University.

Kim Kyunghee, Director of the Nakdong River Management Headquarters, emphasized, "This business agreement will provide Tongmyong University students with practical field experience, enhancing their employment competitiveness and contributing to the protection of the local ecosystem," adding, "We will continue to expand the network to include more universities and institutions."
