Mayor Park Seungwon Emphasizes
Sustainable Peace Policies for the Future
at the 80th Anniversary of Liberation Day
Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province, expressed his commitment to promoting sustainable policies to carry everyday peace into the future on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day.
On August 14, Gwangmyeong City held the opening ceremony of the "5th Gwangmyeong City Peace Week" at Ibex Studio in Iljik-dong to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation.

At the event, Mayor Park stated, "The peace we enjoy in our daily lives is the result of the hard work and sacrifices of our ancestors," and added, "We must safeguard this peace even more firmly so that we can pass it on to future generations."
Mayor Park emphasized, "Through future-oriented policies such as local autonomy, lifelong learning, climate action, resource circulation, social economy, and becoming a garden city, we will protect everyone's daily lives, pursue mutual coexistence, and practice sustainable peace together."
The opening ceremony featured a screening of the original musical "Light of Liberation, Path of Gwangmyeong," an awards ceremony and screening for winners of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) competition, and the Gwangmyeong Peace City Forum.
At the forum, Lee Jae-jung, former Minister of Unification, presented on the topic "History of Division, Future of Peace," establishing a discourse on peace within the history of liberation and division, and offered prospects for inter-Korean relations. Park Taekyun, professor at the Graduate School of International Studies at Seoul National University, discussed "80 Years Since Liberation, 80 Years into the Future," emphasizing the conditions for realizing peace in the modern history of the Korean Peninsula and the roles of local governments and citizens.
Gwangmyeong City Peace Week is scheduled to conclude on August 15 with a special screening of the film "Independence Army" and a guest talk (GV) at Megabox Gwangmyeong AK Plaza.
