Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association (President Lim Chaecheong) announced on August 14 that, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, it will provide emergency support of approximately 300,000 bottles of bottled water worth 45 million won to residents and volunteers in special disaster zones, heatwave priority management areas, and drought-affected regions currently suffering from recent climate disasters.
This support initiative is being jointly carried out by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Hope Bridge to secure safe drinking water at disaster sites and to minimize damage caused by heatwaves and droughts.
Hope Bridge will deliver a total of about 277,000 bottles of water to Gyeonggi Gapyeong County, Chungnam Seosan and Yesan Counties, Jeonnam Damyang County, and Gyeongnam Sancheong and Hapcheon Counties, which have been declared special disaster zones. In addition, approximately 30,000 bottles will be provided to Gangwon Gangneung City, which is experiencing difficulties in supplying household water.
In particular, the support areas include not only disaster-affected residents but also volunteers participating in recovery activities on site, as well as vulnerable groups such as the elderly who are at higher risk from heatwaves.
In 2023, Hope Bridge, together with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, contributed to the stability and health of residents struggling with restricted water supply by providing emergency support of about 170,000 bottles (2L each) of drinking water worth approximately 67 million won to more than 10 island areas, including Jeonnam Wando and Gyeongnam Tongyeong, through the "Drinking Water Donation Relay." Furthermore, in the second half of this year, Hope Bridge plans to discuss and carry out a cold wave preparedness campaign in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Shin Hoon, Secretary-General of Hope Bridge, stated, "Securing safe drinking water in disaster-affected areas is directly linked to survival, so we hope this support will help protect the health of our neighbors during the heat and drought." He added, "We will continue to work closely with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to be the first to respond at disaster sites and provide prompt and necessary support."
