Former President Moon Jae-in and his spouse, as well as the bereaved family of the late President Roh Moo-hyun, will attend the National Appointment Ceremony to be held on August 15.
Kang Yoo-jung, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, announced at a briefing held at the Yongsan Presidential Office on August 14 that "approximately 3,000 citizens have been specially invited."
The National Appointment Ceremony will begin with 80 citizen representatives taking the stage. These 80 individuals are comprised of both ordinary citizens and those who have made achievements in areas such as democracy, economic growth, science and technology, culture, and sports since Korea's liberation. Once each of them places their appointment certificate on the stand, President Lee and his spouse will take the stage.
President Lee and his spouse will then place their own appointment certificates together with those of four citizen representatives. The four citizen representatives are: Mok Jang-gyu, son of independence activist Mok Yeon-woo and a "Liberation Baby" born in 1945; Lee Guk-jong, director of the Armed Forces Daejeon Hospital; Heo Ga-young, winner of first place in the student section at the Cannes International Film Festival; and Lee Yeon-su, CEO of NC AI, a company participating in an artificial intelligence (AI) reader foundation project.
Spokesperson Kang stated, "We selected 3,500 citizens by lottery from those who applied to participate online, and the entire ceremony will be broadcast live."
