"People Around the World Aspire to the Korean Lifestyle
Let's Pass Down Our Precious Legacy to Future Generations Even More Brilliantly"
Seoul Mayor Oh Sehun stated that, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day, Korea has become a proud nation with a high global standing, adding, "We have every reason to be even prouder."
On August 14, Mayor Oh wrote on Facebook, "People around the world not only admire our music, but also the way we eat, enjoy life, and dress-they aspire to the Korean lifestyle itself."
He continued, "Seoul has become a city of soft power, attracting over 10 million foreign tourists each year, and it now ranks sixth in the global city competitiveness index. Korea has also become a proud nation with military strength ranked fifth in the world. What truly matters now is passing down this precious legacy to future generations in an even more brilliant way."
Mayor Oh further stated, "Just as we have achieved the nation our forebears dreamed of, it is now our turn to build a country that the next generation can be proud of."
He also introduced various events being held in Seoul to commemorate Liberation Day. "At Seoul Plaza, a six-meter-tall 'Taegeukgi Hill' made of 300 Taegeuk windmills has been created, and at the Dream Board of Seoul Library, a work inspired by the 'Blood Oath Taegeukgi' of patriot Ahn Jung-geun is on display. On Nodeul Island, 16 historical Taegeukgi flags, including the 'Denny Taegeukgi,' and 1,000 Taegeuk windmills are fluttering vigorously over the Han River," he explained.
Mayor Oh encouraged citizens by saying, "Why not climb Taegeukgi Hill to take commemorative photos, and make the 80th anniversary even more meaningful by attending the Liberation Day concert on the 15th?"
