Beopgochangsin, Jinju Fortress Map
24-Day Event from August 15 to September 7
Jinju City in South Gyeongsang Province and the Jinju Culture and Tourism Foundation will hold the opening ceremony for the 2025 "National Heritage Media Art Jinju Fortress" on August 15 at 8:00 p.m. at a special stage in front of Gongbukmun Gate and Jungyeong.
The "National Heritage Media Art Jinju Fortress" is hosted by the National Heritage Administration, South Gyeongsang Province, and Jinju City, and organized by the National Heritage Promotion Agency and the Jinju Culture and Tourism Foundation. Under the theme "Beopgochangsin, Jinju Fortress Map," the event will run for 24 days from August 15 to September 7 throughout the Jinju Fortress area.
"National Heritage Media Art" is a convergence technology project that uses media and digital technology to present the historical significance and engaging stories of national heritage as moving media art. Jinju City, symbolizing national resilience, has been selected for this project for two consecutive years through a public contest by the National Heritage Administration, aiming to showcase the value of Jinju Fortress as a national heritage site through diverse media art, promote its value widely, and develop it as a major night tourism destination.
This year’s event, themed "Beopgochangsin, Jinju Fortress Map," will feature media art works created by 18 local artists, including: the media facade "Jinju Fortress, Everyone Is a Flower" at Gongbukmun Gate; the interactive experience "Full Bloom of Glory, Communicating Through Consumption and Light" at Yeongnam Pojeongsa; "Full Bloom of Elegance, Jinju of Flowers, Birds, Wind, and Moon" and "Full Bloom of Sentiment, Chilbohwaban" inside and outside Chokseokru Pavilion; and "The Opposite of Imagination, Chokseok Night Banquet" on the inner wall of Chokseokmun Gate. On the outer wall of Chokseokmun Gate, last year’s media art archive will be presented under the theme "Full Bloom of Memory, Chokseok Film."
Additionally, at Uiam Rock, visitors and citizens can experience XR media under the theme "Full Bloom of the Abyss, Petals Scattered in the Wind and Moon." At Jinju Battle History Park, an anamorphic immersive media cube themed "Full Bloom of Hope, The Most Beautiful Jinju" will offer visitors a look back at Jinju’s past, present, and future, and is expected to receive an enthusiastic response.
In particular, the opening ceremony on August 15 will be held under the direction of "Jinju Fortress, Everyone Is a Flower." The event will feature a collaborative performance by the Jinju City Korean Traditional Orchestra, Jinju Samcheonpo Nongak, and a children's Nongak troupe, presenting a convergence media art ceremony that combines tangible and intangible national heritage. Various experiential media art programs will also be available, including Jinju tea culture experiences, the Jinju Fortress LED Play Zone, the Jinju Fortress Slow Mailbox, healing zones at Jinju Fortress and the History Park, and the Jinju Ogwangdae XR experience.
Most notably, during the media art period, the "Jinju National Heritage Night Tour" will take place from August 29 to 31. In addition, the "Performance-Type Walking Tour," a project to develop the city as a night tourism destination, will be held twice, the "Namgang Starry Night Picnic" will be held twice, and the "Jinju M2 Festival" will take place at a special stage on the Namgang riverside from September 5 to 6. These diverse programs combine national heritage utilization projects with immersive night tourism experiences.
Furthermore, during the "2025 Korea Invitational Jinju International Women's Volleyball Tournament" held from August 12 to 17, an "Ena Cash" event will be offered: visitors who purchase tickets and attend the matches can present their tickets at the main information center at Jinju Fortress to receive Jinju Love Gift Certificates.
Mayor Cho Kyu-il stated, "This is the second year of the National Heritage Media Art project. By presenting Jinju’s historical value through media art, we will illuminate midsummer nights and establish Jinju as a leading night tourism city. We will continue to highlight the historical value of tangible and intangible national heritage in line with changing tourism trends, utilize them as major cultural tourism resources, and grow Jinju into a stay-type tourism city that offers new attractions for visitors."
