Morning Downpours in Seoul Metropolitan Area

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 4 a.m. on this day, extremely heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning was recorded at a rate of 30 to 50 mm per hour, mainly in northern Incheon, northern Gyeonggi, and the northern inland areas of Gangwon. Seoul, the inland areas of Gangwon, and northern Chungnam also saw heavy rainfall of 10 to 30 mm per hour. Cumulative precipitation amounts include 298.3 mm in Paju, 272.1 mm in Deokjeokbuk-ri, Ongjin, 268.0 mm in Yeongjongdo, Incheon, 266.0 mm in Habongam, Dongducheon, 253.0 mm in Gimpo, 161.1 mm in Cheorwon, 160.0 mm in Gwangdeoksan, Hwacheon, and 138.7 mm in Seoul.
As a long, narrow band of intense rain clouds, developed over the West Sea, continues to move in, the Seoul metropolitan area is expected to receive 30 to 70 mm of rain per hour just in the morning. Forecasted precipitation amounts are 50 to 150 mm (with some areas exceeding 180 mm) in the Seoul metropolitan area, 30 to 80 mm (with some areas exceeding 120 mm) in the inland and mountainous regions of Gangwon, 20 to 60 mm (with some areas exceeding 80 mm) in northern Chungnam and central to northern Chungbuk, 10 to 40 mm on the northern east coast of Gangwon, 5 to 40 mm in Daejeon, Sejong, Chungnam, and southern Chungbuk, and 5 to 20 mm on the central and southern east coast of Gangwon.
As of 5 a.m., the current temperatures are 24.3°C in Seoul, 24.4°C in Incheon, 25.0°C in Suwon, 23.2°C in Chuncheon, 28.8°C in Gangneung, 26.1°C in Cheongju, 26.0°C in Daejeon, 25.0°C in Jeonju, 25.0°C in Gwangju, 26.8°C in Jeju, 24.4°C in Daegu, 26.1°C in Busan, 24.6°C in Ulsan, and 25.6°C in Changwon. The highest daytime temperatures are forecast to range from 28°C to 34°C.
Wave heights are expected to be 0.5 to 1.0 meters in the coastal waters of the East and South Seas, and 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the coastal waters of the West Sea. In the offshore areas (up to about 200 km from the coastline), wave heights will be 0.5 to 2.0 meters in the East, West, and South Seas.
