[Profile] Daehyun Kim Appointed 2nd Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism...Administrator with Extensive Experience in Sports and Tourism

On August 13, Daehyun Kim, former Director General for Religious Affairs at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, was appointed as the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The newly appointed 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Daehyun Kim, is a native of Boeun, North Chungcheong Province. He graduated from Bomun High School and the Department of Public Administration at Yonsei University. In 1993, he passed the 37th Higher Civil Service Examination and began his public service career.

He earned a master's degree from Central Michigan University in the United States and has accumulated extensive administrative experience in government public relations, tourism, and sports, which fall under the purview of the 2nd Vice Minister.

Starting in 2005, Vice Minister Kim worked at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). He later served as Director of Broadcasting, Video, and Advertising Policy in the Media Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and from 2009, he was Head of Planning at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics Bid Committee.

He also served as Director of International Sports in the Sports Bureau and as Director of Sports Policy in the Sports Policy Bureau. In 2018, he worked as Director of Cultural Events at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics Organizing Committee.

In 2020, he was appointed Director General of the Media Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and in 2021, he became Director General for Religious Affairs, overseeing religious administrative affairs. Since 2023, he has served as Secretary General of the National Academy of Arts of the Republic of Korea.

Kang Yoo-jung, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, introduced the new 2nd Vice Minister, Daehyun Kim, stating, "His greatest strength is his ability to make well-informed decisions based on a deep understanding of his duties, which he has developed through extensive experience in the fields of sports and tourism, including assignments at the United Nations World Tourism Organization and the PyeongChang Winter Olympics Organizing Committee."
