Shedding New Light on the Life and Spirit of an Independence Activist
The Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office (headed by Lee Namil) hosted a screening of the film "Baeksan: From Uiryeong to Balhae," which depicts the life of independence activist Baeksan Ahn Heeje, on August 12 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day. Over 100 people, including veterans' families, university students, and elementary school students, were invited to the event.
Busan Veterans Affairs Office held a screening of the film highlighting Baeksan Ahn Heeje on the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day and took a commemorative photo.
Baeksan Ahn Heeje dedicated his entire life to the independence movement and the self-reliance of the Korean people, earning the nickname "the Three Baeks" alongside Baekbeom Kim Gu and Baekya Kim Jwajin. However, he remains relatively unknown to the general public. This film focuses on his activities in the independence movement and his resistance against Japanese colonial rule, and it was also selected for support by the Veterans Affairs Ministry’s cultural content program.
Director Jin Jaeun attended the screening in person and discussed the challenges he faced during production, as well as his efforts to capture Baeksan's spirit on screen. Audience members shared their impressions and asked questions, to which Director Jin responded, creating an opportunity for meaningful interaction.
Lee Namil, head of the Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office, stated, "I hope that through this screening, more people will be able to deeply appreciate and honor the life and spirit of Baeksan Ahn Heeje," adding, "We will continue to make various efforts to promote veterans’ culture in the future."
