Emergency Disaster Alerts for Heavy Rain Issued 27 Times
Torrential rain with hourly precipitation exceeding 100mm is pouring down across various parts of the Seoul metropolitan area. This extreme rainfall is expected to continue, mainly in the metropolitan region, and repeat through the morning of August 14.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Deokjeokdo in Ongjin County, Incheon, recorded 149.2mm of rainfall in just one hour from 8:14 a.m. to 9:14 a.m. on August 13. This is the highest level ever recorded outside of typhoon events.
At the Jugyo Automatic Weather Station (AWS) located in Hyeoncheon-dong, Deogyang District, Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, 105.0mm of rain was measured between 11 a.m. and noon. In Eunpyeong District, Seoul, and Gimpo City, Gyeonggi Province, hourly precipitation reached 103.5mm and 101.5mm, respectively.
As of 1:45 p.m., emergency disaster alerts for heavy rain had been issued 27 times. The Korea Meteorological Administration sends alerts when hourly rainfall exceeds 50mm and three-hour rainfall exceeds 90mm, or when hourly rainfall exceeds 72mm.
As of 1 p.m., cumulative precipitation measured 224.0mm in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province; 145.2mm in Incheon; 147.9mm in Ganghwa, Incheon; 112.1mm in Seoul; and 110.1mm in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
In its 11 a.m. forecast, the Korea Meteorological Administration projected an additional 50 to 150mm of rain in the Seoul metropolitan area and the five West Sea islands through August 14, with up to 200mm or more expected in Incheon, northern Gyeonggi Province, and the five West Sea islands.
