500 Gwangmyeong Citizens Gather to Draw a Blueprint for a Basic Society

On August 13, the city announced that it would host the "8th Gwangmyeong Citizens' 500-Person Roundtable Discussion" at the Gwangmyeong Citizens Sports Center on September 13.

The roundtable is designed as a "platform for participatory policy design," where citizens can directly engage in municipal administration by proposing policies, and the local community can help shape the city's future.

The discussion will be divided into two sessions: Session 1, "Selection of 2026 Participatory Budget Projects," and Session 2, "The Basic Society We Aspire To."

In Session 1, citizens will discuss participatory budget projects tailored to local needs, and determine project priorities through on-site voting. Previously, the city has promoted a range of projects through the participatory budgeting system, including initiatives for daily life improvement, balanced regional development, and welfare enhancement.

Session 2 will focus on basic society policies aimed at building a social safety net for all generations, covering topics such as education, housing, employment, care, and health. Key discussion points include expanding educational, career, and cultural spaces for youth; addressing housing and job insecurity for young adults; alleviating job and care burdens for the middle-aged; and preventing social isolation and promoting health for seniors.

The city plans to award and incorporate into municipal policy any proposals deemed highly feasible during the on-site evaluation.

Mayor Park Seungwon of Gwangmyeong stated, "The roundtable is an opportunity to reflect on topics closely tied to citizens' lives and to design a better city together," adding, "It will mark the first step toward realizing a basic society, with all citizens serving as key agents in policy-making."

The city will accept applications to participate in the roundtable until September 5 via the QR code provided in the information notice or by email. For more details, inquiries can be directed to the Gwangmyeong City Policy Planning Division.
