Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Appoints 7 Additional Teacher Members to Teacher Rights Protection Committee to Strengthen Field Voices

Capacity-Building Training to Be Held on August 14
Enhancing Expertise in Protecting Educational Activities

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun) has appointed seven additional teacher members to the Regional Teacher Rights Protection Committee to strengthen the protection of teachers' rights and provide more effective responses to violations of educational activities. The office will also conduct capacity-building training for all committee members, including the newly appointed teachers.

The Regional Teacher Rights Protection Committee has so far consisted of a total of 79 members, including various external members such as parents, legal experts, and police officers, as well as teacher members. However, as calls to better reflect the voices of those working in the field have continued, it was decided to appoint seven additional incumbent teachers to the committee.

The newly appointed teacher members will be selected from the five local education support offices, with one or two from each office. They will officially begin their activities on September 1, the start of the second semester. The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education expects that expanding the number of teacher members will enhance the committee's expertise and balance, ultimately leading to more effective protection of educational activities.

The appointed teacher members, together with existing committee members, will participate in the "Capacity-Building Training for Regional Teacher Rights Protection Committee Members" at the Educational Research and Information Institute on August 14. The training will cover three main topics: legal understanding of the protection of educational activities, the role and procedural legitimacy of the Teacher Rights Protection Committee, and types of deliberations and the roles of committee members. In-depth discussions will be held on ways to ensure fairness in decision-making processes and maintain consistency in judgment criteria, based on actual case studies.

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to continue supporting the effective operation of the committee by providing customized training and case-sharing for committee members, supplying educational materials on an ongoing basis, and regularly monitoring the committee's operations.

Superintendent Kim Seokjun emphasized, "The additional appointment of teacher members is not simply an increase in numbers, but a reinforcement of institutional measures for more effective responses to violations of teachers' rights." He added, "We will actively reflect the opinions of those in the field to create an environment where teachers can focus on their educational activities with peace of mind."

He continued, "Since the Regional Teacher Rights Protection Committee plays a key role in protecting educational activities, fair and professional judgment is more important than ever. I hope that through this training, the committee members will be able to fulfill their roles with even greater trust."
