Jinju City to Provide 2.8 Billion Won in Advance Disaster Relief Payments to Residents Affected by Torrential Rains

On August 13, the city of Jinju in South Gyeongsang Province announced that it would provide advance disaster relief payments to residents affected by the record-breaking torrential rains, who were designated as living in a special disaster area on August 6.

The total amount of disaster relief funds confirmed for disbursement so far is approximately 2.8 billion won. This includes 260 million won for 75 cases of residential flooding, 280 million won for 95 small business owners, 2 billion won for 1,494 farming households, and 220 million won for 277 forestry workers.

First, a total of 550 million won in support funds will be paid in advance as soon as the damage to households affected by residential flooding and the business losses of small business owners with significant damages are verified. Households affected by flooding will receive 3.5 million won per household, based on the extent of the damage, while small business owners will receive 3 million won each, based on the damage to their main business premises.

In addition, for the agriculture and forestry sectors, approximately 2.2 billion won will be distributed once the main sources of livelihood are verified and the eligible recipients are selected, with payments to be made swiftly.

Beyond disaster relief funds, Jinju City is also providing information on indirect support programs, such as deferments of national and local tax payments, discounts on electricity and telecommunications bills, and disaster recovery loans, by posting guidance on the Jinju City Hall website. Local administrative offices are issuing damage verification certificates to help affected residents access these indirect support benefits and to assist in their return to normal life.

Mayor Cho Kyu-il stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure that disaster relief funds are paid quickly so that affected residents can return to stable lives as soon as possible," adding, "In particular, we will make every effort to ensure that those in the agriculture and forestry sectors, whose livelihoods have been devastated, receive timely support."
