Democratic Party Supreme Council Meeting on August 13
Describes People Power Party Convention as "Becoming Increasingly Absurd"
Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, launched a scathing criticism of the People Power Party's national convention, saying, "I am confused as to whether this is a national convention, a half-baked party convention, a gathering of remnants who defend insurrection, or a contest for branding each other as traitors."

At the Supreme Council meeting of the Democratic Party held at the National Assembly in Yeouido on the 13th, Jeong described the People Power Party's convention as "increasingly absurd" and made these remarks.
Jeong criticized the People Power Party by citing the sharply contrasting comments made by its party leader candidates regarding former President Yoon Suk-yeol. He said, "One People Power Party leadership candidate, at a tumultuous rally, stated, 'It is former President Yoon Suk-yeol who betrayed the people and party members,' and also said, 'Those who still oppose impeachment, claim election fraud, and support Yoon Again must be expelled from our party.'"
He continued, "Another candidate for party leader, addressing a rival, said, 'You sided with a biased special prosecutor, branded our party as a party of insurrection, and even labeled your fellow party members as sympathizers of insurrection.' He went on to say, 'I hope you make a political decision soon and follow the path you truly wish to take,' effectively pressuring the rival to leave the party." By highlighting these conflicting statements about former President Yoon and impeachment, Jeong underscored the internal divisions within the People Power Party.
Jeong called on the People Power Party to "wake up from the memories and illusions of insurrection and return to being a normal political party," and emphasized, "I also hope you will take it upon yourselves to put an end to profanity, verbal abuse, and disorderly conduct at your rallies."
Meanwhile, Jeong welcomed the news that North Korea has dismantled loudspeakers targeting the South in border areas. He said, "This is a positive sign for the resumption of inter-Korean dialogue," and added, "As President Lee Jaemyung stated, I hope both sides will move away from hostile relations and foster an atmosphere conducive to dialogue."
