On August 13, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon stated that the arrest of Kim Keonhee represents the people's judgment against greed and corruption.
In a post on his social networking service (SNS) account that day, Governor Kim wrote, "The simultaneous arrest of a former president and his spouse is unprecedented in the history of our constitutional government," adding, "It is a shameful and tragic event in the eyes of the people."
He continued, "Kim Keonhee is the main figure behind the privatization of power," and emphasized, "An unprecedented abuse of power naturally calls for an unprecedented level of punishment and judgment."
He further stated, "Arrest is not the end," and insisted, "The full truth must be revealed regarding crimes that turned the nation into a family business profit model, including the Yangpyeong Expressway, Cambodia ODA, and various bribery allegations."
He went on to add, "Complete restitution must also be achieved."
In particular, he urged, "I call on Yoon Sukyeol and Kim Keonhee, who continue to deny and evade responsibility," and advised, "A sincere confession and apology is the minimum duty for someone who once held the presidency of the Republic of Korea."
He also expressed, "I hope you will no longer insult the people," and appealed, "Let us restore the common sense and basic principles of the Republic of Korea."
Previously, the court issued an arrest warrant for Kim Keonhee at night on the 12th, at the request of special prosecutor Min Jungki's team.
