Seocho-gu Introduces Real-Time Location Service for Public Buses Including Filial Piety Bus

First in the Country for Local Governments
Real-Time Bus Location Service to Expand to "AI Special Zone Bus"

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seongsoo), announced on August 13 that it has become the first municipality in the country to introduce a real-time location information service for its public buses, the "Filial Piety Bus" and "Culture Bus," thereby taking the lead in realizing smart transportation welfare.

The "Filial Piety Bus" is a circulator bus for residents aged 60 and older who use local welfare facilities, while the "Culture Bus" operates on routes connecting major cultural facilities such as libraries, cultural centers, and sports facilities. Both services are offered free of charge to residents, with up to five vehicles each. Seocho-gu is the first local government in the country to provide real-time location information for municipally operated public buses.

The district has installed RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) equipment in each vehicle. RTK is a precise positioning correction technology with a much smaller margin of error than conventional GPS, capable of providing real-time information accurate to about 5 to 10 centimeters. As a result, anyone can check the current location and estimated arrival time on the "Seocho Filial Piety and Culture Bus" webpage, and integration with the "Seocho Smart City App" has further improved accessibility and usability.

The district plans to expand this service to the "AI Special Zone Bus," which is scheduled to begin operation next year. The AI Special Zone Bus will circulate among key locations in the Yangjae AI Special Zone, covering the Yangjae and Umyeon-dong areas, and will be available to employees of AI and ICT companies as well as local residents.

Meanwhile, since last month, Seocho-gu has also launched the "Children's Safe Commute Bus" service in partnership with "Kids Note," providing parents with real-time location updates for daycare and kindergarten shuttle vehicles. By expanding its services from the Filial Piety and Culture Buses to the AI Special Zone Bus, the district is accelerating its efforts to create a safe and convenient urban transportation environment based on digital technology.

Seocho-gu Mayor Jeon Seongsoo stated, "Our goal is to ensure that everyone traveling through Seocho, from children to seniors, can move about more conveniently and safely," adding, "As a city leading the future of the AI industry with the AI Special Zone, Seocho-gu will continue to realize smart administration by pioneering digital-based transportation welfare."
