Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Myung-soo visited an air base ahead of the South Korea-U.S. combined exercise "Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS)" and called for operational readiness to respond immediately to any provocation by the enemy under the pretext of the joint exercise.
According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff on August 12, Chairman Kim visited the 10th Fighter Wing of the Air Force on this day. This on-site inspection was conducted to check the maintenance of a firm readiness posture, assess the practical preparedness for the combined exercise, and encourage the service members who are doing their utmost to accomplish their missions despite challenging conditions.
Chairman Kim first inspected the air force's readiness posture to respond to various enemy provocations, instructing, "Maintain a solid operational posture that enables an immediate response to any provocation under the pretext of the combined exercise."
He also emphasized, "With the wing commander at the center, all personnel should work together as one to achieve perfect teamwork, not only enhancing combat skills through realistic training, but also ensuring a constant operational posture capable of immediate sortie through thorough safety checks."
Chairman Kim then visited the emergency standby room to encourage pilots and maintenance and armament personnel carrying out their duties to defend the airspace.
He also visited the Red Team War Simulation Headquarters, stating, "The role of the Red Team is more important than anything else in achieving practical training objectives," and urged, "Reflect the rapidly changing security environment and the evolving nature of warfare in your Red Team missions, so as to further enhance the combined defense capabilities of South Korea and the United States."
